From Struggle to Surrender: What If There’s Good in This?

August 30 | 2026

When something in life feels difficult, our instinct is often to struggle against it.

We want to fix it. Change it. Understand it. Make it go away.

But sometimes there is another spiritual invitation waiting for us: surrender.

Surrender doesn’t mean that we stop caring or pretend something isn’t difficult. It means we become willing to loosen our grip on how we think things must unfold and open ourselves to something greater.

One of the questions I invite you to bring into your prayer life is:

“God, show me the good here.”

You may not see it immediately.

You may not understand why something is happening or know where it is leading. But you can still bring that struggle into the light of God and become willing to see it differently.

We can remember the good that has already carried us through so many moments in our lives. We can remember that we are loved. We can release worry, fear, pain, and self-judgment. And instead of running from the presence of God, we can surrender to it.

Yes, God.

Yes to your goodness.

Yes to your holiness.

Yes to your healing.

Yes to your peace.

That is the journey from struggle to surrender.

In this week’s Sunday for the Soul meditation, I invite you to take a few quiet minutes to make that journey for yourself. Bring whatever is on your heart. Breathe into the goodness of God and ask to be shown what you may not yet be able to see.

The meditation also includes a beautiful musical moment featuring an original song by Charlyce Simmons, including the refrain, “You’ve been so good, Lord.”

May you return to your day with a little more ease, a little more awareness, and a deeper trust in the good that is already unfolding.
