For many people, the name Jesus carries more than one feeling.

There may be love and devotion—but there may also be memories of religious rules, judgment, fear, or teachings that made Jesus feel more like something being forced upon us than a presence inviting us into greater love.

In this Sunday for the Soul message, Cynthia Alice invites us to reconsider what Jesus and the Christ can mean on our own spiritual journey. She explores the Unity understanding of Jesus as fully human and fully divine, the Christ essence within each of us, and our calling to grow into the “full stature of Christ.”

Rather than allowing the ways religion has sometimes used Jesus to separate, control, or condemn to define our relationship with him, Cynthia Alice offers another possibility: reclaiming Jesus as friend, guide, way shower, and an expression of the love and divine potential we are called to embody.

The message ultimately becomes deeply personal: What might happen if a name complicated by religious experience became a source of healing and spiritual power again?
